Sikaflex-227: The Automotive Sealant Built To Handle Heat, Cold And Constant Movement
Wetherill Park, Australia – July 14, 2026 / Sika Australia /
Sika’s Sikaflex-227 automotive sealant offers manufacturers and repairers a one-component polyurethane option built for the movement and stress that vehicle assemblies undergo, without sacrificing long-term adhesion.
Sealant used in automotive assembly and repair work has to cope with constant vibration, temperature swings, and exposure to the elements, and any product that hardens, cracks, or loses its bond over time creates costly rework and warranty callbacks.
Sikaflex-227 cures through a moisture-curing mechanism into a flexible elastomer, with an elongation at break of 600% and a Shore A hardness of 40, allowing it to move with a joint rather than fail under stress. It has a skinning time of around 40 minutes and operates across a service temperature range of -40°C to 90°C, with resistance to ageing, UV light and moisture.
Application temperature should be between 5°C and 35°C, and surfaces need to be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and other contaminants before the sealant is applied. Sikaflex-227 can be applied with hand-operated, pneumatic or electric-driven piston guns, and any tooling or shaping should be done within the skinning time. Backing rods are recommended for overhead applications to prevent sagging, supported by the sealant’s non-sag properties.
For crash body repair, assembly of automotive parts, and sealing panels and frames, this combination of flexibility, adhesion and weather resistance is what keeps joints intact over the life of the vehicle. The same properties extend to electric vehicle manufacturing, where Sikaflex-227’s compatibility with lightweight materials supports sealing around battery enclosures.
Sikaflex-227 meets OEM and automotive industry certification requirements and is available for automotive assembly, repair and EV manufacturing applications through Sika’s automotive sealant range.
For vehicle assemblies that need to withstand real-world movement and weather, Sikaflex-227 remains Sika’s automotive sealant built for the job.
